The Q&A Archives: Propagating Ivy

Question: Can I propagate Ivy's with one leaf on a stem. Long stems have a lot of leafs. Can I cut at the node on the main vine and use that one leaf only. If so then I can have several cuttings.

Answer: You can try that, but it is a bit iffy. A surer route is to make slightly larger cuttings with one or two nodes under the soil level and a leaf on top, allow them to root and grow a bit, then take cuttings from the cuttings.... I think this way you will have better plants more quickly than if you try to rush. Remember too that a healthy mother plant will continue to produce material for additional cuttings.
