We have a very old and uniquely fragrant gardenia. This plant is beginning to die - I think just from age. I would like to take a cutting from it to start a new plant. Is this possible? If so, how would I go about doing it?

Gardenia isn't difficult to propagate at all! Take 3-4" cuttings in July. Moisten the cut ends, and dip them in a rooting hormone such as "Rootone", and stick them powdered side down in a moist, sterile, soilless potting mix. Cut the bottom out of one of those clear, plastic 2 liter soda bottles and place it over the pot. Give the pot plenty of light but never direct sun, the cuttings usually root in 4-6 wks.
