What should I do to my trumpet vine to prepare it for the upcoming winter months? Specifically, should I prune it?
If so, how much? A light pruning, hard, severe?

Trumpet vine (Campsis radicans) is very winter hardy so you don't really need to do much of anything to it right now. It blooms on new wood of the season, so to maximize bloom you will want to prune it back fairly hard in the very early spring. This will stimulate new growth and more blooms as a result.
