| I have a fuschia plant I bought this spring that never did too well, and now looks spindly. I would like to take some cuttings and root them, but I can't remember how. My mother used to do this oftem when I was a child, but when I tried, they all just lost their leaves and died. |
| Softwood cuttings are of new, healthy growth that is not yet firm. They should be about two inches long, with two or three pairs of leaves at the top of the stem. Insert the cuttings into the planting medium (use a soilless potting mix), just up to the lowest leaves. Rooting hormone may be used, but is not essential. It helps to pinch off the growing tip, which helps force more roots. You can also take internodal cuttings, which have about 1/2 inch of stem above and below a set of leaves. They should root within 10-20 days. Good luck! |
