I am looking for something with color for my beds that can be purchased locally and can tolerate nearly complete shade. I would like something for the fall and winter months.

Those specifications make for a difficult order to fill! Pansy, viola, ornamental kale, ornamental cabbage and cyclamen are fairly shade tolerant and can take the cold quite well. It the shade is too dense, even they will have trouble thriving. Nevertheless, I'd consider them to be your best options.
