| Due to drought and water restrictions in this area, I was unable to adequately take care of my laen this summer. After restrictions were lifted and we got sufficient rain, I overseeded in Sep. Now I have nice green lawn but tremendous amount of weeds (various) too. Should I wait and worry about these weeds in the spring or tackle them now taking care not to kill my new grass growth? |
| It's too bad your new lawn has sprouted weeds, but it's a common occurance in all new lawns. The best time to control weeds is as soon as they emerge. If you allow the weeds to mature they'll spread, either by underground roots and rhizomes, or by seeds. Hand pull the weeds now and your lawn won't have to compete with them for sunshine, moisture and nutrients. Without competition from weeds the grass will grow lush and thick enough to crowd out any weed seeds attempting to sprout. If you wait until spring, you'll have an even larger population of weeds to deal with! |
