My in-laws from Germany insist that one should not add citrus fruits to a compost pile (although they were unable to provide an explanation). In all of the information I have read on composting, I have never found anything on the subject. Do you think that the reasoning is that one should avoid too much acidity in the compost? Is there anything to their warning? |
Many home gardeners routinely add citrus rinds from the kitchen to their compost pile. In a large quantity (I'm thinking of at least cubic yards at a time) it might create an imbalance of one kind or another and lead to fermentation for example, but a few rinds at a time should be fine. |
