I recently had a family member pass away. After- wards I was offered any one of the potted plants. I chose a two and half feet tall plant with corn leaves. I was told it was called a corn plant. My question: How big should the pot be, how much water should I give it, and how should I fertilize it, (if at all)? |
I'm sorry for your loss. Dracaena fragrans is an easy plant to care for. It prefers bright to medium light, but is tolerant of low light. When you water, soak it thoroughly and then let it just dry out before watering again. Use an all-purpose plant fertilizer and follow package instructions. It is a slow-growing plant, but can eventually be very tall. Pot size depends on plant size. Allow a little extra room for expansion, but don't put it in too large of a pot. Your plant should probably be okay in an 8 to 10 inch pot. Check to see if roots are coming out the bottom--if so, repot. Good luck with your plant! |
