I have a beautiful large hardy fuchsia that I would like to divide and spread to other areas of my garden. Is division the proper way to accomplish this? |
Hardy fuchsias can be divided in the spring or in the fall. Your plant should have several stems and each stem, with roots attached, can become a new plant. Divide by digging the entire plant out and laying it on its side. Use a spade to cut through the rootmass, separating into as many new plants as you wish, making sure that each division has both roots and stem(s) attached. Then replant in the garden bed. Next summer you can enjoy the bounty of blooms from your transplanted divisions. |
