The Q&A Archives: How Do I Put On A Flower Show?

Question: Please HELP! Our garden club would like to put on a flower show next summer but need major help on categories etc. All of our older members are long gone along with their knowledge. We'd appreciate any info you can provide or any source of info.

Answer: The federated garden clubs use very strict guidelines with regard to flower shows, but you might be able to adapt those to your needs. You might also find some assistance through the local 4-H program since they often help educate exhibitors about entries for the "county fair". You might also find some help through local chapters of various specialty plant societies since they often hold their own specialized shows. Your local area Master Gardeners might be another good helpful resource. Finally, your local County Extension might have some suggestions and your local public librarian might be able to help you find samples of old programs or published winners lists which would tell you which categories are popular in your area. Have fun with your show!
