Fruitflies can be a real nuisance, but you can make an effective and inexpensive fruitfly trap to put on your kitchen counter. Just take an old jar, put several inches of cider vinegar in the bottom and place a funnel in the top. The flies will be attracted to the vinegar odor, fly into the jar and get stuck. (They can easily crawl into the funnel opening from the top of the jar, but won't be able to figure out how to get back out.) Fruitflies can live quite happily in sink drains, or anywhere they can find moisture and decaying organic material. Try to keep fruit refrigerated or covered until the infestation subsides.
