I have a Christmas cactus with a large branch that was recently broken near the base of the plant. It looks like it will soon fall off, although the branch still looks healthy. Is there any way to root the many, upper sub-branches in rooting powder, water, sand/soil mix, etc?

Yes, these plants root easily. Take cuttings with a sharp knife and allow the cut to callus for a few days. Use a cactus soil mix. Fill a pot about 1/3 full, put the cutting in, then fill to just below the rim. Rooting hormone isn't really needed. Keep in bright light, but out of direct sun. A temperature range of 64-75 F is ideal. Mist with water occasionally, but don't overwater as the cuttings may easily rot. They should root within 3-12 weeks. Good luck!
