The Q&A Archives: Controlling White Fungus on Soil Surface

Question: I am having good luck with germinating your seeds indoors at 70F under grow lights but am experiencing (for the first time) a white fungus at the soil surface. I am afraid this will be deleterious to the seedlings. What should I do now and what should I have done before? Thank you. Jonathan Park Norwich, VT

Answer: Sounds like you've overwatered and there is poor air circulation. Let the soil dry out somewhat and put a fan (set it on low) in the same room on for part of the day. After you have done that, then only water when the soil is dry to a depth of at least one inch (up to your first knuckle).
