The Q&A Archives: Round Up Ready Soybeans

Question: I am wondering if I planted a Roundup ready soybean in my garden and had someone harvest the seed with a combine if the trait of being resistant to Roundup would be passed on to the seed of the soybean?

Answer: Monsanto has developed plants with the Roundup Ready? gene. These genetically enhanced plants will tolerate over-the-top applications of Roundup. Since the plant carries the gene, the gene should appear in seeds developed by these genetically altered plants.
