The Q&A Archives: Planting Early Tomatoes

Question: I live in Seattle, Washington, and today 4/5/96, transplanted an early tomato cultivar. Am I too soon? The evening low temps are about 45 degrees.

Answer: Evening lows of 45-50 are not too low for tomatoes. As long as the ground is warm enough (60+) to encourage active growth and dsicourage soil rots.
