The Q&A Archives: Lima or Butterbean?

Question: What is the difference between lima beans and butter beans?

Answer: Butterbeans are a type of soybean and are wonderful when cooked and eaten fresh; they can also be frozen. They grow better in cooler regions than limas do and also have a higher yield. Limas are often grown for dried storage although they can also be delicious fresh; these beans require a long hot summer to grow well.
