The Q&A Archives: Leaving Grow Lights on All Night

Question: Should "Grow Lights" be left on all night on young vegetable plant seedlings. If not, how long per 24 hour period? Can you transplant cucumber, squash plants in this area next week. James M. McInnis Arlington, VA

Answer: It's best to leave your grow lights on 14-16 hours a day. Plants need a rest period and keeping the lights on 24 hours a day, can actually harm them! I'd wait to plant your cucumbers and squash out until the end of April. The last frost date in your are is around then, and you never know what weather April will bring!!!
