My home faces West, and because of the tall building on the south next to my front lawn and garden, in summer it gets all sun and heat and in winter it gets all shade and coolness! What plants, preferably colorful and/or flowering, could I plant which can survive these extremes? I would like some color in front! |
The area you describe sounds difficult for even the most hardy of plants! To have color throughout the year, why not plant annuals? That way you can customize the plantings to fit the change in light and heat. For instance, how about sun-loving marigolds, cosmos, zinnias and petunias during the summer months and shade-loving pansies, impatiens and lobelia for autumn and early winter color? |
