| When and how do I separate pups from my larger bromeliads and how do I properly transplant them? |
| I am assuming that you have your bromeliads growing in pots. Wait until the pups or offsets are about a quarter or a third the size of the mother plant so the babies can develop some anchor roots -- if they still have no roots, you may have to treat them like cuttings. Then, simply cut them off, trying not to damage the mother plant. To do this you may have to unpot the entire mass but in either case clear away enough soil at the base of the plant so you can see where best to separate the pups. Make a clean cut with a clean sharp knife and then repot. Doing this may even stimulate additional pup formation. It sounds awful, but it works. |
