My daughter is doing a science fair project on the effect of soil PH on plant growth. How can she measure the PH of the different soils she will be using? Is there a meter or chemical test that a 13 year old can do easily.

There are many simple and easy to use pH testing kits on the market; most kits include supplies for a number of tests. There are also very simple hand held pH meters available. I'm sure your daughter could manage either type of test. Your local garden center might carry them or you might order them. Burpee, for example, carries kits for from 10 to 80 tests as well as a meter for about $25. You can reach Burpee at www.burpee.com or 800-888-1447.
