My fiance is fixing up the house and yard to sell after we get married, but we've had problems getting rid of the onions well-entrenched in the lawn. We fertilized, limed (we have a typical clay-like southern soil) and seeded this fall. Any suggestions for ridding me of them (the onions, not the fiance)? |
Wild onion (Allium amplectens) is difficult to eradicate because even if the tops are killed back, stored energy from the bulb allows new foliage to emerge. Herbicides available to homeowners are ineffective against wild onion. The only sure way of getting rid of the weedy plant is to dig it up, bulb and all. Hope your marriage is as well-rooted as the weeds in your lawn! |
