The Q&A Archives: Tips on Verbena

Question: I just purchased a pink-colored verbena. At the garden store, all they said is that it likes hot sun. It's in a hanging basket and looks great. Please tell me the care and feeding of this beauty and when is it safe to hang outside in my area? Thanks for all your help. Donna Pitman, NJ

Answer: Verbena does like full sun, well drained soil and heat to grow and flower best. Feed it every few weeks with a complete fertilizer such as Miracle Gro, keep it watered (especially if it's in the afternoon sun) and pinch back the shoots if they get leggy. Other than that, it should grow and flower all summer for you!
