Is The Propagation Of Atlas Cedar Seeds Any Different Than Other Cedars? Do The Seedlings Have Special Needs?
I have some Atlas Cedar tree seeds. Could you advise me as to their requirements to sprout? What type of soil is best for the seedlings? How fast do these trees grow under ordinary conditions?

Thanks!

According to Michael Dirr's "Manual of Woody Plants" Atlas Cedar (Cedrus atlantica) seeds do not usually go dormant and they should be chilled or cold stratified at 37 to 41 degrees for two weeks prior to planting. I would suggest a good quality neutral to acidic soilless mix which can be kept both moist and yet well drained (meaning not soggy). These trees are considered fast growing when young (meaning about two feet or so a year) but very slow as they mature (less than a foot a year).
