I am preparing a wedding and would like to have a border garden along my rock wall. I want to get rid of the grass and weeds for about 12" from the rocks and probably will use round-up My question is how soon after using round up can I plant my flowers so that I can have blooms along the wall? my wedding date is July 22, 2000.

If you read the label instructions they will tell you exactly. However keep in mind that the Round Up needs to be applied when the temperature is above a given minimum and the grass and weeds are in active growth in order for it to be effective, and then you must wait the prescribed amount of time for the chemical to be translocated to the roots where it actually takes effect. This means you can't rush the process. You should probably plan on using hefty transplants and larger sized (perhaps even gallon) perennials rather than seeds to start your flower garden, and you may need to move them up to larger pots while you are waiting through the bed preparation process. Also, for best results be sure to work in plenty of organic matter to give them a good start. Good luck with your project!
