I was thinking of planting crown vetch in my drainage ditch to help control erosion but I heard it can naturalize and take over other areas of your yard. Is this true?

Yes, crown vetch is difficult to eradicate once established and it spreads readily by underground rhizomes. If there is no barrier between your drainage ditch and your lawn, it would probably invade.
