I am looking to get detailed instructions on how to construct a sundial garden and what specific plants I should include that will grow in NH. To clarify, I'm not looking to build a garden around a sundial, I am actually looking to set up a sundial on the ground and have plants situated at each hour that will bloom in that hour.

You are thinking of what is commonly called a flower clock. I believe the inspiration for these must have come from work done
by early botanists including Linneaus in Sweden. Sharon Lovejoy's
book "Sunflower Houses: Garden Discoveries for Children of All
Ages" (ISBN 0-934026-70-X) includes detailed instructions on
creating a floral clock beginning on page 32. A brief look at Linneaus'
work on flower blooming times can be found here:

and a very detailed discussion
here:http://www.cedar.univie.ac.at/arch/infoterra/96apr/msg00143.html
Unfortunately I can't find a sample plan from the Victorian era, but this
should get you started. Good luck with your project!
