| Last year I purchased a yaupon holly from a nursery; it was about 4 feet tall and had red berries on it. This year it didn't get any berries. It gets at least half a day of sun in the summer and more in the winter. The foliage and the plant itself looks healthy. Does this plant need a pollinator? |
| Yaupon holly does not need a pollinator and since it had berries on it originally, it must be a female plant. Since your holly looks healthy otherwise, it might just be transplant shock and time to get established. Ensure that your holly receives adequate water all through the growing season. Generally hollies prefer a moist but well-drained and acid soil. You might try fertilizing in the spring with a phosphorous-rich fertilizer, which promotes flowering. Water thoroughly before and after fertilizing. |
