| The location you describe is an extremely difficult one, primarily because of the wind which is so drying combined with reflected baking heat which is also drying. If you can do anything to make a windbreak and/or a bit of dappled shade, consider doing that first. Next, use a good potting mix with the new water holding polymers in it and use the largest tub type containers you can because these will dry out slower than small pots. (Check any applicable weight limits, though -- wet soil is very heavy!) For specific plants I would suggest experimenting a bit to see what does best. I would try salvia, zinnias, marigolds, portulaca, flowering vinca, verbena, dusty miller and some of the herbs such as thyme, curry plant, and so on. You might also consider a tub type water garden with a small water lily and water hyacinths. |
