| If the soil is not frozen you can try to transplant them now. (If the soil is frozen you may not be able to dig them up!) However, early spring would be a much better time to try to move them if you can get permission to wait until then. If not, you could dig them and place the root balls in plastic bags filled with compost (leave the tops sticking out where they will be in the open air) and then store them in an unheated garage. The idea will be to keep the roots insulated from extreme cold as well as keeping the tops dormant until early spring when you plant them just as soon as possible. Good luck with your move! |
