When do you trim pampas grass? Also, is it true that there are male and female plants? If so how do you tell the difference?

You can trim your pampas grass back in the spring, just before new growth begins. There is only one pampas (Cortaderia selloana). If yours isn't sending up flower plumes, it's probably too young, or not getting the all day sunshine it requires.
