The Q&A Archives: Deterring Deer from Tulip Bulbs

Question: Are there and do you have tulips that are deer resistant? I live in Overland Park, Kansas which is outside of Kansas City limits toward the Southwest. Thanks. Lonnie Overland Park, KS

Answer: No tulips are resistant to hungry deer. Your best bet would be to fence out the deer from your property, or try spraying repellents around the tulip bed in spring as they emerge until after flowering. Some home remedies include cayenne pepper, garlic and moth balls. Commercial products include animal urines, Ropel, Hinder and Border. These should be available at local garden centers.
