The Q&A Archives: Gingko Tree

Question: Is there any way to determine the sex of young gingko trees?

Answer: Unfortunately, no. Unless the trees are grafted by a reliable supplier and are therefore known to be male or female, there is no way to tell until the trees mature and bloom (or not, as the case may be.) This can take a long time, say about twenty years.
