Last winter a friend in Fort Myers , Florida gave us several slips of a beautiful plant being used as a ground cover in the retirement village. Nobody seemed to know what the plant was. It looks like a type of low growing succulent and produces small , dainty red flowers with a tiny yellow center. The flowers come out only if it is sunny otherwise they stay closed. It grew very well in my northen garden all this past hot summer. We took slips before frost and they are now growing happily and blooming in planters on sunny window sills. As it grows and becomes too long for the planters we simply cut it off and start some more plants for the neighbors. What is the name of what we are growing? |
