How deep are you supposed to plant your seeds?

It depends on the seed, but a good rule of thumb is to plant your seed three times as deep as the seed is wide. Some seed (poppy, carrot) are very, very tiny and need only be placed on the soil surface. Usually, seed packets will give depth guidelines.
