| I recently purchased two bamboo culms and have brought them home and placed them in water as they were in the store where I purchased them. I have one nice green one with leaves, and the other one has turned yellow, but the leaves are still green. My question is should I keep them in water or transplant them to soil, and if so what type of soil and how best would I care for them so they will grow for me? |
| The change in appearance might be due to the stress of being moved from the store to your home. Bamboo is such a vigorous plant that I doubt the problem is serious, and I expect both plants will thrive once planted. Bamboo grows best in full sunshine and will need little water once the roots become established. Bamboo can tolerate a range of growing conditions, from very dry to very wet soils. The plants spread by underground roots and can become quite invasive, so plant them in containers (which you can sink into the ground), or find some other way to confine the roots. Average garden soil is fine for the plants; the key to lush growth is plenty of sunshine. |
