The Q&A Archives: Burpee Hummingbird Mix (Ipomopsis)for NC

Question: My mother

Answer: Hummingbird mix (Ipomopsis) is a native Southwestern plant. It likes heat and dry conditions. you certainly have the heat in NC and AL, but the humidity may cause problems. In the Southwest they are perennials, but may only last as an annual in your environment. If you want to try them, choose a sunny, well drained location with light soils and good air circulation. Keep the plants on the dry side and they should grow fine. As far as I know they are not poisonous, but I still would not encourageyoung kids to eat the leaves, flowers or stems.
