| Peeling bark could be a sign of a very sick tree...or it could be a natural characteristic of the tree. Peel bark is a natural, and quite attractive, feature of several common trees including sycamore, river birch, paperbark maple, and shagbark hickory. As you can see, it's important to know what type of tree you have in your yard. If you know, just repost your question with the new information.
