I live in southern Oklahoma, right on the Texas border and am blessed / cursed with heavy red clay soil. I would like to plant shrubs around the house that stay green all year round and grow to about 3-4 in height. What are my options ? |
The most fail-safe suggestion I would have is to use a small to mid-sized juniper. (Junipers are available in many sizes and overall shapes from flat spreading to vase shaped to upright like a pencil. They are also available in different needle colors -- green, blue-green, and gold tipped.) You might want to amend the soil with organic matter and possibly slope it just slightly (angled away from the house) to make sure that the drainage is adequate during wet periods. |
