| I have great sucess grwoing plants from seeds that do not require light to germinate but cannot seem to get seeds such as coleus, impatiens that require light to even germinate. I generally just sprinkle these types of seeds on the surface of moistened medium. I do use a heated grow mat. I halfway suspect the seeds are not getting good contact with the soiless mix. Any suggestions?? |
| You might try using a finer grade mix so that the seeds do not slip so far down into spaces in the mix nd also so that any particles dislodge by watering do not cover the seeds. In my experience sprinkling the seeds atop a thin layer of fine vermiculite (spread over the surface of slightly dampened soilless mix) and then a light misting is sufficient to ensure good soil contact. Cover the pan with plastic wrap to maintain humidity so the seed do not dry out and set it in a warm location such as on the heatig mat out of direct sun -- direct sun may heat up the pan to the point that the seeds cook to death! Also be sure that the soil is not too warm! |
