The Q&A Archives: Blueberries

Question: What are some good bluebarry varieties for California? I was thinking Berkeley, Bluecrop and Earliblue. Are those good choices?

Answer: Good blueberry cultivars for your growing region include 'Berkeley', 'Bluecrop', 'Dixi', 'Earliblue' and 'Jersey'. Plant at least two varieties for pollination. Blueberries require acidic soils, so be sure to amend the soil with plenty of peat moss, then mulch with peat to help acidify the alkaline soil (which is a standard condition in your area).
