| It's usually a good idea to cut back the dead tops once they have frozen back. This helps reduce the chance of pests or diseases overwintering. If you didn't get to it in the fall you can do it in the winter or next spring. However, some gardeners leave the stems and faded blooms on some plants such as sedum, black-eyed Susan and ornamental grasses for their decorative qualities or as a supply of bird food. |
