What is an effective method to use for separating lettuce seeds from the chaff?

Essentially you would thresh them out as best you can by shaking and rapping. If you have harvested the seeds correctly there should not be a tremendous quantity of trash with the seeds. Once the plants go to seed simply pull or shake the seeds out, then winnow them and dry them indoors. If you are doing a lot of plants at once, pick and dry the whole plant, then shake or knock the seeds out. Since one plant can hold tens of thousands of seeds it's not usually such a big job all in all.
