I have semi dwarf MacIntosh trees that are about 5 years old. What kind of apple tree is best for cross polinating these? I live on the banks of the St. Lawrence River in zone 5 were with the wind chill we get 31 below as we did today.

Brrr - it sounds really cold in your neck of the woods! MacIntosh companions include Cortland, Spartan and Summerred. There are other cultivars that bloom at the same time as your MacIntosh and will cross-pollinate, but the above 3 apples are really tasty!
