I am trying to determine what a "Marvel of Peru" (according to the french translation from "Belle de Nuit", Marvel of Peru is the botanical name of a plant.)

Based on context (french romantic period art song) this would be a night blooming flower of some sort. Trying to be accurate as to what exactly it is...

Marvel-of-Peru and Beauty-of-the-Night are both names for Four-O'Clocks (Mirabilis jalapa). What fun! These plants are often grown as annuals in cold weather areas but are perennial in warmer areas. They are originally from South America and have been hybridized with M.longiflora from Mexico to create our garden plants.
