| I have a small yard and right now I have 2 small dwarf alberta spruce trees there in each corner of the yard towards the front. I know they grow very very slow and I want to replace them with some other evergreen or conifer tree. I was looking at Colorado blue spruce trees but they get big. I do not have a big space for a very large tree but there is a nice size area in the front of my yard now. I have an area 18 feet long with a forsythia in the middle and 2 rose bushes on eather side of that and the spruce trees there on the ends so can you tell me what kind of nice conifer I can plant on the ends? I want something at least 20 foot high. |
| Most evergreens are very large and ultimately broad trees, so you are right to be concerned about the space. In order to get the height you want without taking up too much "floor space" you will need to look at trees with an upright pyramidal or even columnar form. Several junipers meet that requirement and will do well in a full sun location and also grow relatively quickly, expecially when compared to most dwarf conifers. You might consider "Witchita Blue" or "Skyrocket". You might also consider an upright and relatively narrow form of arborvitae (Thuja occidentalis) which should also do well for you. |
