We have a very large Dumb Cane, it has been divided already twice, and is doing great..there are large light green spikes growing out of it, it looks like a flower of some sort could be inside..(it is not the same as new leaves..) it is so large it looks as though it is splitting the trunk.
What could this be, do we leave it alone, or cut it out...
thank you

Your dieffenbachia has reached maturity and is developing flower spikes. When they open, the flowers will look like the blooms on a calla lily. There may be some sterile spikes forming as well, and these will look like thickened stems with a thicker green coating along the top few inches.

Flower production is a natural process, in fact it's a bit of a reward to you for providing the ultimate in care for your plant. Let the flowers grow. When they start to fade, cut the flower stalks down to foliage level.
