The Q&A Archives: Storing

Question: I just received my shipment of daylilies. Is it too early to plant them now, or can they be planted immediately without regard to damage from frost or freezing weather? L. Joseph Pittsburgh, PA

Answer: Your daylilies should be planted after the last forst date for your area which is probably around May 1. So for now, heal them into a mulch pile and cover them to protect the plants for freezing, or keep them in a cool, dark basement keeping the roots moist, but not wet with moist peat moss, until the end of the month.
