The Q&A Archives: Getting Azalea Bushes to Flower Again

Question: We have azalea bushes, about 8 years old, planted around a flowering dogwood. They stopped blooming about 3 years ago for no reason, while another set right next to them continue to bloom. Any ideas ?

Answer: If you haven't fed your azaleas, now may be the time. Also consider a good pruning right now (you may need sacrifice a few buds or blooms) to stimulate fresh growth. It could be your dogwood has reached a point where it's draining off whatever nutrients your soil has and keeping it from the selected azaleas. I'm assuming that all conditions -- sun exposure, varieties, etc. -- are the same for all your azaleas.
