I'm dying to plant. I just made a planter and have been trying to prepare for the coming year, but I'm tired of preparing and need to plant. Is it too early? What can I plant now? Can I till my garden now and start? If the seeds die can I replant? |
I understand your impatience to get into your garden, but you'll do far more damage than good if you till your soil while its soggy. Wait until things dry out and warm up a bit before starting your veggie garden. You can plant in your new planter box now. Fill it with potting soil and sow seeds of ornamental kale or cabbage, or peas. These plants will tolerate the cold weather, provide spring-green stems and leaves, and should satisfy your urge to get the gardening season going. Wait until late February to plant pansies and primroses and they'll provide beautiful color. By March you should be able to work the soil in your garden beds. |
