| I have a hydrofarm (seeding heat mat) for plants; can I also use this mat to do indoor herb planting? I don't hav emuch of a sunny area in my home but I would like to do some planting during the winters -- or is thsi something just for regular flowers? |
| Bottom heat such as that produced by a soil heating cable or mat is usually used to specially warm soil to facilitate seed germination for plants needing a warmer soil temperature and for rooting cuttings, especially for those of tropical plants. Once the plants have germinated or rooted they are usually removed from the special location and kept at average temperatures. If you have an herb in need of warm soil it should be fine to use the heating mat just as you would for any other plant. Most herbs do however need ample bright light in order to grow well indoors. You might consider using supplemental lighting if you plan to grow them indoors all winter, and even if you simply plan to start them early and then move them outdoors in the spring. |
